How this site makes money

BackyardRated is reader supported. Some of the links to manufacturers on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something after following one, the seller pays us a percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price either way.

What a commission does not buy

• It does not buy a place in a ranking, a score, or a verdict.
• It does not buy the removal of a drawback from a page.
• It does not buy a review. We do not accept payment to write about a product.
• It does not decide which products we cover. We write about the categories readers search for, then find out which of those products we can be paid on, in that order.

Products we recommend but earn nothing on

Some products we rate well pay us nothing. That includes competing brands with no affiliate program, and specific items excluded by the programs we are in: accessories, spare parts and extended warranties usually pay zero commission even when the machine itself pays.

When that is the case the page says so. We would rather tell you we earn nothing here than quietly steer you to the product that pays.

Where we send you

We link to the seller with the better deal for you, and when the manufacturer's own store is cheaper than a reseller, we send you to the manufacturer. If following our link would cost you more than buying elsewhere, we do not use it. We also do not build pages around coupon codes or discount hunting.

Tracking

An affiliate link passes an identifier so the seller knows the visit came from this site and which page it came from. That is how the commission is attributed. It tells us which of our pages sent a sale, not who you are. Our privacy policy and cookie notice describe what happens on our side, which is very little.
